Family Health Medical Services, PLLC is celebrating its 40th Anniversary as a leading healthcare provider in WNY. FHMS specializes in primary care and has built a reputation of excellence in providing compassionate and attentive primary medical care for the whole family.
Founded by Dr. Robert Berke on October 9th, 1982, FHMS began serving the local community from a small house rented on 55 Elm Street in Mayville, NY. Over the years the practice continued to expand from Mayville to Westfield and Jamestown, NY.
On reaching this milestone, Dr. Robert Berke stated, “I arrived here in Westfield mid-July 1982 with a contract to work as Health Commissioner for the County and a dream of doing some part time work in family practice. It took until early October to set up an office site in Mayville with a nurse and a secretary. We now encompass 4 offices, 16,500 patients and over 80 employees including 16 practitioners. Fully computerized since 1999, we have been recognized as being on the cutting edge of rural health care innovation and quality service provision. Those first steps in 1982 have grown beyond anything I had envisioned or hoped for."
In 2021, the organization welcomed Dr. Berke’s daughter, Metivia Whitmore, DO to the practice. She has taken on the role of practicing partner and joins Dr. Albert Persia and Dr. Alexander Selioutski in leading a primary care team of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing, a dedicated leadership team and a comprehensive team of support staff.
When asked about joining her father's practice, Dr. Whitmore shared. “I am exceedingly proud to be working for such an incredible, forward thinking, and progressive primary care practice. Additionally, I am honored to be working alongside my father who has been my hero and mentor for as long as I can remember. We have a dedicated, passionate, and caring staff; we look forward to providing high level, quality healthcare to Chautauqua County and beyond for years to come.”
