Juneteenth – also known as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day - stands as an enduring symbol of Black American Freedom. Nearly Nine decades after our Nation’s founding and more than 2 years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation – enslaved Americans learned of their freedoms on June 19, 1865.
We hope that everyone took the time on this holiday to learn and reflect on the significance of the day, and that we acknowledge the work still required to achieve full freedom for all.
